Staffordshire Moorlands Conservatives: Post Office Action

Press Release : 31 March 2008

Local Conservatives were out and about across the Moorlands on Saturday, visiting local Post Offices and delivering leaflets to homes that could be affected by the Post Office closures due to be announced on Tuesday this week.

Karen Bradley, Conservative Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Staffordshire Moorlands, said:

"We wanted to make people aware that the announcement of which Post Offices will close will be made on Tuesday. We don't know how bad the situation will be in the Moorlands and can only hope that we somehow come out of this better than expected.

Given that 2,500 Post Offices will close across the country, we should expect four to close across the Moorlands – any more than that will be extremely disappointing, but typical of the way the Moorlands is treated at the moment. However, as we have seen so many Post Offices close across our rural areas already, I can only hope that the review is kind.

Once the announcement is made and we know just how badly we have done out of the review, I will be co-ordinating a response to the consultation to show how important our local Post Offices are to those of us living in Staffordshire Moorlands."
