Mark launches 'Stop the Closures' Post Office Campaign

Press Release : 1 April 2008

Wrekin MP, Mark Pritchard, has vowed to fight plans by the government to close post office closures in his constituency, including the proposal to close Park Corner post office in King Street, Wellington.

It is one of 30 post offices throughout Shropshire that are due to close.

Other post offices designated for closure in the Borough of Telford and Wrekin include: Church Aston, Sambrook near Newport, and Randlay.

The MP has already met with local sub-postmasters and has vowed "to fight the closures all the way".

The MP said:

"These post offices provide a valuable service to the whole community. I am calling upon local residents to join me in fighting these closures. There will be an impact on both pensioners, families and younger people".

Last week in the House of Commons the MP voted against the closure plans. He has since launched a 'Stop the Closures' Campaign starting with a community petition which can be signed at the MP's office in Wellington or online at www.markpritchard.com
