Tax-free news from West Midlands Mayor, Andy Street

Working together as a region, using a business approach, we’ve won over £1.7billion of extra funding from the Government. That’s why I DON’T have to raise your Council tax. Take a look at this video to find out more.

The Mayor of the West Midlands has the power to raise tax – called the Mayoral Precept. The Precept is there to help fund new investment.

But because we came together as a region, I don’t have to use it.

Working with Government, we’ve won £1.7billion of investment. Helping to expand the Metro. Clean up unused land for new homes. Provide 225 homes for the homeless.

I was the boss of John Lewis for ten years. In business, you raise new money by working together and winning investment. And that’s what we’re doing in the West Midlands.

There’s more to do.

Our region has faced years of underinvestment. It can’t be turned around overnight.

But now we are creating jobs faster than any region outside London.

So we’re starting to see progress. And we’re seeing that progress without charging you a penny in Council Tax. Take a look at this video to find out more.
