Home Secretary
Sajid is a proud British-born son of an immigrant bus driver. He was raised in tough neighbourhoods and made the most of state schools to win a place at Exeter University. Sajid then went on, at the age of 24, to become the youngest Vice President in the history of Chase Manhattan Bank and was later headhunted by Deutsche Bank to help raise investment for developing countries.
He and his wife Laura are the proud parents of four young children.
From September 2012, Sajid served as Economic Secretary to the Treasury; the following year, he became Financial Secretary. In April 2014, he was appointed Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport. Following the 2015 General Election, Sajid was made Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills.
Sajid Javid MP was appointed Home Secretary on 30 April 2018. He was Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government from 8 January 2018 to 29 April 2018, and Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government from July 2016 to January 2018.
Sajid is also Ministerial Champion for the Midlands Engine.
